CAT Test Duration and Pattern

The CAT 2017 had three sections [Total of 100 Questions]

  1. The First Section is Quantitative Ability(QA) (34 Questions)
  2. The Second Section is Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) (32 Questions)
  3. The Third Section is Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VRC) (34 Questions)
  • Total Time Duration is 3 hours (180 minutes).
  • Sectional duration is 1 hour each.
  • The questions comprises of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Non-MCQs.
  • On Screen, Basic Calculator will be provided.
  • Three (3) Marks will be awarded for each correct answer; One (1) Mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. There is no penalty for questions that are left unanswered.
  • In Non-MCQs Question Type, there is no negative marks for wrong answer.

Bank PO/Clerk Exam Pattern

Each bank which conducts the PO and Clerk exams for providing the relevant post to the candidate having their own examination pattern and criteria of selection. The aspirant of Bank jobs appearing the exam must know about the Exam pattern almost to attempt it well. The candidate can get an idea by doing this. The eligible candidate for the relevant job must see the below examination pattern of the exam and keep it in mind to perform well. The following pattern is the Common Written Exam (CWE) pattern that is excepted by almost all the banks in India.

The pattern of the Bank PO/Clerk Exam is:

  • Test of Reasoning
  • Test of English Language
  • Test of Numerical Ability
  • Test of General Awareness
  • Test of Computer Knowledge

Almost the whole Exam pattern is such designed that a person has to attempt the entire question within 2 hours i.e. the individual get about 120 minutes to attempt it. The total marks for the entire test is 200.

There is also negative marking of 0.25 marks as the penalty on each wrong answer means on every four wrong answers a mark will be deducted from the total of scoring marks. The following is the full Description of the pattern and the topic above includes:

Test of Reasoning:
In this section you will get all the reasoning type questions and for this you will get 50 questions to attempt it. This is a good scoring for the student of non-math as it contains non-math questioning.

Test of English Language:
This section includes all the English Grammar, Reading Comprehensive, Vocabulary, Sentence Correction, Antonyms & Synonyms, Idioms & Phrases, Analogy, Parajumbles etc. Some of the Banks can replace this section with the Hindi Language plus English language according to their own pattern. The section is of 40 marks to attempt.

Test of Numerical Ability:
This section includes: Decimal fractions, simplifications, Averages, Simple interest, Percentages, Profit and loss, Number series, Data sufficiency and etc. The section also of 50 marks and one mark each.

Test of General Awareness:
This section is related to the general awareness with particular reference to the Banking industry. The section is also of 40 marks, one mark each to every question.

Test of Computer Knowledge:

It is related to the basic information of computer field and related to it. This section is also contains 20 marks and one mark to each question.

*Note: Some of the banks may not stick to this pattern or may have change in some subject, but this pattern is followed by all the banks in India.

TEST PATTERN – TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

  • Listening (120 to 180 min.),
  • Reading (60 to 80 min.),
  • Writing (50 minutes) and
  • Speaking (Approx. 20 min.)
The total test time is 250 min. (4 hr and 10 min) to 330 min. (5 hr and 30 min)

Listening Section:

  • 4 to 6 lectures, each 3 to 5 minutes long, 6 questions per lecture, 60 to 90 min.
  • 2 to 3 conversations, each 3 minutes long, 5 questions per conversation, 60 to 90 minutes

Reading section:

  • Includes 3 or 4 reading passages.
  • There are 12 to 14 questions per passage.
  • You have from 60 to 80 minutes to answer all the questions in the section.

Writing Section:

  • Scale: 0 to 5 (Avg. score on the two tasks is converted to a scaled score of 0 to 30)
  • Total time: 50 minutes.

Two Writing Tasks:

  • Integrated Writing Task (20 minutes) — Read a short passage and listen to a short lecture. Then write in response to what you read and listened to.
  • Independent Task (30 minutes) — Write an essay in response to a Writing topic.

Speaking Section:

  • Scale: 0 to 4 (Avg. Score of 6 tasks converted to a scaled score of 0 to 30)
  • Approx. 20 minutes long and includes 6 questions.
  • First 2 questions: “Independent Speaking Tasks" because they require you to draw entirely on your own ideas, opinions and experiences when you respond.
  • Other 4 questions: “Integrated Speaking Tasks" because they require you to integrate your English-language skills — listening and speaking or listening, reading and speaking — just as you would in or out of a classroom.

Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is a national level admission test for admission in all management programs approved by AICTE.

  • Generally, the exam is held twice a year in the months of Feb and Sept. The better of two scores will be used for admission for 2014-15.
  • AICTE has now decided to conduct CMAT in Foreign Countries for facilitating eligible NRIs/PIOs and foreign nationals to appear in CMAT for seeking admission in institutions in India following CMAT merit list for 2014-15 under special provisions defined in AICTE Approval Process and against all vacancies left after completion of centralized admission in management institutions.

Eligibility

Graduates in any discipline OR

Final year students of Graduate Courses (10+2+3) whose result will be declared before commencement of admission for 2014 can apply.

Note: In case of foreign nationals, it will be as per recognition and equivalence standards notified by Association of Indian Universities.

ICET Syllabus

The test is designed to measure the candidate's ability to think systematically, to use the verbal and mathematical skills and to assess his or her aptitude for admission into MBA or MCA programme. The Test emphasizes accuracy. Therefore, the candidate is required to go through the instructions carefully. This is an objective type test and the questions are of multiple choice. Out of the given options, the candidate has to choose the correct answer. If the Candidate gives more than one answer to any question, such answers will be ignored while awarding marks.

The test consists of 200 questions of one mark each in the following topics.

Section - A: Analytical Ability

(i) Data Sufficiency: 20 Questions

(ii) Problem Solving: 55 Questions

Section - B: Mathematical Ability

(i) Arithmetical Ability: 35 Questions

ICET Test Pattern

Section - A: Analytical Ability (75 Questions)

(1) Data Sufficiency (20 Questions):

A question is given followed by data in the form of two statements labelled as i and ii. If the data given in i alone is sufficient to answer the question then choice (1) is the correct answer. If the data given in ii alone is sufficient to answer the question then choice (2) is the correct answer. If both i and ii put together are sufficient to answer the question but neither statement alone is sufficient, then choice (3) is the correct answer. If both i and ii put together are not sufficient to answer the question and additional data is needed, then choice (4) is the correct answer.

(2) Problem Solving (55 Questions):

(a) Sequences and Series (25 questions): Analogies of numbers and alphabets, completion of blank spaces following the pattern in a:b::c:d relationship; odd thing out: missing number in a sequence or a series.

(b) Data Analysis (10 questions): The data are given in a Table, Graph, Bar diagram, Pie Chart, Venn Diagram or a Passage is to be analyzed and the questions pertaining to the data are to be answered.

(c) Coding and Decoding Problems (10 questions): A code pattern of the English Alphabet is given. A given word or a group of letters are to be coded or decoded based on the given code or codes.

(d) Date, Time and Arrangement Problems (10 questions): Calendar problems, clock problems, blood-relationships, arrivals, departures and schedules, seating arrangements, symbol and notation, interpretation.

Section - B: Mathematical Ability (75 Questions)

(a) Arithmetical Ability (35 questions): Laws of indices, ratio and proportion; surds; numbers and divisibility, L.C.M. and G.C.D; Rational numbers, Ordering.; Percentages; Profit and loss; Partnership, Pipes and cisterns, time, distance and work problems, areas and volumes, mensuration, modular arithmetic.

(b) Algebra and Geometrical Ability (30 questions): Statements, Truth tables, implication converse and inverse, Tautologies-Sets, Relations and functions, applications - Equation of a line in different forms. Trigonometry - Trigonometric ratios, Trigonometric ratios of standard angles, (0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 90°, 180°): Trigonometric identities: sample problems on heights and distances, Polynomials; Remainder theorem and consequences; Linear equations and expressions; Progressions, Binomial Theorem, Matrices, Notion of a limit and derivative; Plane geometry - lines, Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Circles, Coordinate geometry-distance between points.

(c) Statistical Ability (10 questions): Frequency distributions, Mean, Median, Mode, Standard Deviations, Correlation, simple problems on Probability.

Section - C: Communication Ability (50 Questions)

Objectives of the Test: Candidates will be assessed on the ability to:

i) Identify vocabulary used in the day-to-day communication

ii) Understand the functional use of grammar in day-to-day communication as well as in business contexts
